Time to Adjust

So this morning I excitedly picked up my new suit from the lovely gentlemen at Ede & Ravenscroft. More on the suit Monday, but for now I just wanted to focus on one thing it really opened my eyes to: side adjusters over belt loops.

The side tab, like on the formal trousers above, is to my eye far more elegant than cumbersome belt loops, and also provides quite a bit of flexibility. Originally these adjusters were called Daks Tops, having been invented at Daks of London, but now many fine outfitters make their trousers this way. I have had one or two pairs of trousers with adjusters in addition to belt loops, but these always look like a casual detail rather than a formal solution to the age-old question of trouser levity.

An added bonus is that with the tabs tightened the trousers sit nicely, right where they should, but if you loosen them it becomes possible to lightly float the trousers with braces. Now I guess I have to go find a pair…

A Shining Proposition

I just returned from a lovely weekend away from it all in Paris, and must say that I saw quite a few really elegant people and things standing out in the sea of sweat-pants-clad tourists Place Vendôme was as usual one of my favorite stops on the journey, with its windows full of glittery jewels and baubles of every sort.
