Going into work on the tube, I have seen some men lately wearing some truly hideous shirt and tie combinations. A yellowy-beige shirt with a tie featuring a large graphic of a puffer-fish will flatter no man, and rather than making him look like a fun sort of guy just makes him look like the butt of his own joke.

To risk taking things a bit too seriously for a moment, the Oxford English Dictionary defines Elegance as “Refined grace of form and movement, tastefulness of adornment, refined luxury.” And further in terms “Of spoken or written compositions, etc.: tasteful correctness, harmonious simplicity…” And lastly, “of scientific processes, demonstrations, inventions, etc.: Neatness, ingenious simplicity, convenience, and effectiveness.”

Pardon the terrible pun in the title of this post, but I have finally purchased a pair of wholecuts. The quest for these shoes has been over a year long, with many close calls along the way, but Monday afternoon I finally walked away from the store victorious.
