Living in St. Louis and Austin for the majority of the time, it is far too hot to eat outdoors most of the year. Call me fussy, but sitting on the porch and sweating into my food is just not appealing. Yesterday morning though I had the pleasure of a leisurely breakfast on the sidewalk with come good company, and must say I need to do this more often.

The other day when I got off the plane, the first thing I knew I had to do (after dropping off my larger than life suitcases of course) was to head to the West End. I missed it so much I simply couldn’t wait to visit all my favorite shops and haunts.

Saturday I made brunch for the family, as per my younger brother’s request. Every time I come for a visit, the one inevitable meal is Crab Eggs Benedict. I thought I would take a cue from Mr. Chris Cox over at Easy & Elegant Life and share one of my favorite recipes.

So last Friday I preached the good word of the Ardbeg Ten, and said that I would have a bottle of eight year old Glenrothes waiting for me at home. Well when I arrived, it turned out to be a bottle of eight year old Highland Park from the same bottling series. While I don’t think I could ever be upset at finding a bottle of Highland Park in my cabinet, this also ended up giving me a fantastic learning opportunity.

Luckily the semester is over, exams are finished and final papers are handed in – more importantly, thesis prospectus is in, comprehensive exams are passed, and next year’s coursework is looking good. To celebrate, my mother spoiled me (as she usually does) with a fantastic bottle of whisky: Ardbeg Ten.
