ICONS – Leonard Logsdail

Posted by: on Jun 13, 2011 | 12 Comments

Welcome to ICONS, a new video feature on Simply Refined.  Part of dressing well, or doing anything well for that matter, is having people to learn from.  So we’ve decided to seek out the most interesting modern ICONS to share their stories, opinions, and quirks for the betterment of the rest of us. They might be talented artisans, particularly stylish people, or just folks with a great story to tell.  But whatever the reason, here’s where you’ll find great stories coming from the people living them.

Who better to kick off ICONS than a man who’s been a key figure in the bespoke tailoring world on both sides of the Atlantic for decades.  Presenting Leonard Logsdail.  Len started out working on Savile Row in the 60s, set up his own shop just off the Row in the early 70s, and now works out of a showroom above a Burger Heaven just off 5th Avenue.  The room is light and airy, but is filled with partially finished coats, cloth bunches, and a trolly holding an espresso machine and a few bottles of the good stuff.  In other words, not a bad place to spend a Friday afternoon.

If you look at Len’s track record, it’s a bit surprising we don’t hear more about him.  The gents over at Men of Habit did a great profile a few weeks ago, and The Rake ran a full article last year, but that’s about where it stops.  Len cuts for some of the world’s best-dressed men, and has provided the wardrobe for some the the last few decades’ most stylish films.  And to top it all off he is a consummate gentleman.  He has a critical eye and wit, but is positive, intelligent, and above all has a generous spirit.  I could continue gushing, or you could just watch the video.

Thanks for helping to give Len the exposure he richly deserves, a true Prince of a man and a spectacular tailor – a client 15 years and counting

This interview shows, as well as anything, why Leonard Logsdail is a great tailor, and this clip could not have been bettered. You’ve done a considerable service for those men thinking about custom tailoring. Congratulations.

Great video highlighting Len who is just a pleasure to work with and a supremely talented man. I’m guessing the overcoat you pictured is his coat. He just made me the same overcoat and it is just amazing.

Thank you very much. Yes, it is Len’s coat and I’m very envious of the two of you – come this winter my overcoat is going to seem so boring.
