"Lasting" Luxury

We all known how flooded the market is with supposed “luxury goods” and “quality bespoke such-and-such,” but I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what sorts of things set apart the proverbial wheat from the chaff. To be honest, a lot of what I’ve been able to identify falls pretty simply into two categories: intensive craftsmanship and true creativity/individuality.

After returning home last week to Austin for a brief visit with my family, things have already turned into preparations for farewells. My younger brother leaves for college in just a week, and I return to school a few days after.

For men’s dressing, as for most things of consequence, I believe the devil is really in the details. These details are everything from the weave of a cloth to the pattern of socks or a pocket square to jewelry and accessories. It’s this last category I want to discuss for a moment, and a particularly undervalued accessory in particular – the collar bar.

I took a page out of Mr. Chris Cox’s book, or rather his blog, and sprung for a pair of espadrilles last week. As a longtime friend of Simply Refined, I am willing to give almost anything on Easy and Elegant Life a try, and yet again expectations have been exceeded.
