At Long Long Last…

Pardon the terrible pun in the title of this post, but I have finally purchased a pair of wholecuts. The quest for these shoes has been over a year long, with many close calls along the way, but Monday afternoon I finally walked away from the store victorious.

I payed a visit to the lovely shop John Rushton only a few minutes before closing time on Monday evening since I happened to be in the area. Last Fall, while living only a five minute walk or so away from Mr. Rushton’s haven I would drop in periodically to check on new offerings, but nothing ever seemed quite right. Mr. Rushton has a close relationship with many of the Northampton shoemakers and gets their slight seconds, which he then sells for around £100 give or take. The above wholecuts from Bowen (inhouse rebranding of Alfred Sargent for France) were a cool £95, with only a slight chip in the upper part of the welt around the heel.

It helps that Mr. Rushton could not be more charming, nor more patient and honest. He has told me before that a shoe doesn’t suit me, as well as always having wise words on his offerings in general. I highly recommend dropping by if you are ever in London. Well enough about that for now. I have worn them once, and as I wear them in I’ll keep everyone updated.

PS – We hit 50 posts on Monday and I didn’t even notice!
