Weekend Read – Ian Fleming

While most of this weekend was spent working on my thesis – due tomorrow – I did find some time to relax and decompress.  I wrote last week about kicking up your heels and recharging, and so I decided that if I’m going to follow anyone’s advice, why not my own?

I’ve always been a fan of Mr. Ian Fleming’s most famous character, but until a few months ago had only ever seen his films.  And no, I’m not talking about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  Fleming is amazing at creating compelling, enjoyable characters, involved in plots that pull you through them at light-speed.  From Friday to Monday I rocketed through On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and anticipate polishing off another novel by the end of this week.  Accompanied by the requisite martinis of course.  We all need a break from Balzac and Plato every once in a while, no?
