Thinking of Sunshine ( and Rubinacci )

I’m sitting here in the middle of MidWest Snow-pocalypse 2011 trying my best to stay warm.  I seriously have not seen a glimpse of everyone’s favorite star in two or three days, and while I love the gloomth provided by a blizzard that leave me homebound with a Maugham novel, pot of tea, and bottle of brandy, I would like to know the sun is still out there somewhere.

But, just in time to remind me the sun does in fact exist, Rubinacci launched their long-awaited e-commerce site last week.  The Sartorialist has done wonders to propel Mr. Luca Rubinacci to mainstream international fashion fame, but too many people have never had the opportunity to obtain any of his family’s amazing offerings.  Before last week, Milan, Naples, London, and New York were your only options.

To me, Rubinacci is the sun in silk and linen.  Colors that make mother nature jealous and materials that you can’t stop stroking are de rigueur.  From experience I can tell you the knit ties are the most striking that can be found, and from the sheer amount of time I’ve spent lusting after the colorful loafers I think I can safely say the same.  Fingers crossed, I’ll spring for a pair in the not-too-distant future.

The London shop is run by Chiara Rubinacci, who is always sweet and nice to chat with if you find yourself on Mount Street (and why wouldn’t you).  Last summer though I finally got the opportunity to meet Luca while he was in town for a few days.  We sat down and had a chat about his personal style and the new line of ready-to-wear he produced for Harrods, Luca’s Wardrobe.  Elegant goods, produced by a most elegant family – it doesn’t get any better than that does it?
