Not So Modern Manners

I ordered this book a few weeks ago for my thesis, and I just had a chance to look through it the other day. It has a lot of funny, charming, and more than slightly anachronistic things in it – which is to be expected, considering it was published in 1872. Manners are always important, obviously, but this book prepares one for a variety of situations in which the modern man (or woman) rarely finds himself (or herself). I thought I would share a few choice entries from the index in the back to keep you giggling through the weekend.  Some are funny, some are just oddly put, and some are just plain odd:
