Luxury….Beer?

So last night I opened up a bottle of the above, Young’s Double Chocolate Stout….wait, strike that.  Young’s LUXURY Double Chocolate Stout.  I’ll admit I’m a bit of a beer geek (expect some craft beer posts in the coming months), but Luxury beer?  There’s been lots of discussion lately about what the world luxury actually means these days, with the explosion of all things labeled luxury.  And while I first chuckled when I saw this little buzzword on the label of my beer, I actually think it sort of fits.

Before you scoff and tell me I can’t possibly mean that, let me defend my position.  It’s the sort of beer you can only buy one bottle or can at a time, and a single bottle will run you about half the price of a six pack of the usual stuff.  So, I buy one or two, and they sit in the fridge for a while, next to the other beers, and I deliberate whether I really want to open it or not before busting open the cap.  Then I sit down, feel indulgent, savor the experience, and get excited for the next one….sounds pretty luxurious to me.

A little luxury, but something special nonetheless.  For me, this is what luxury is all about, doing something a little different and out of the ordinary that takes a simple moment (drinking a beer) and makes it feel extraordinary.
