I Think It Suits Me

So this is the best picture I can get up here for now, since in typical genius fashion I have brought the wrong camera cable to London with me. I thought I would get a quick snap of the cloth on my iPhone, and I will shoot more proper pictures later today using my Aunt’s camera instead.
But, photographic mishaps aside, it is an exciting time here at Simply Refined – new suit time to be exact! After a thoughtful recommendation from a friend I dropped by the Ede & Ravenscroft shop in Burlington Gardens (top of Savile Row) after lunch a few weeks ago and found this splendid suit in just my size. The block at E&R is a nice modern take on a very traditional shape, and happens to fit me nicely. Classic elements like a slightly longer coat, single pleats in the trousers, and a flower loop behind the lapel combine nicely with more modern details like the suppressed waist and slanted pockets to keep things interesting. The cloth is a really soft Super 130s grey/black birdseye, which I think keeps the suit nice and versatile so I can wear it for almost any occasion, while still being a bit more eye-catching and intriguing than a typical plain.
The folks at Ede & Ravenscroft took very good care of me, especially Martin who was both charming and helpful. The process of getting clothes fitted is always a sort of odd process in that someone else typically reveals things about your own body to you that you may not have known before. For example, Martin informed me with the greatest tact that only one of my vents needed adjustment, because my protruding posterior (which I was more than aware of before walking in) is more rotund on the right than left. You learn something every day I guess.
