Fall Scents

I’ve written a lot recently about shifting my wardrobe for fall.  The changes in fabrics, the changes in colors, &c., but I’ve ignored one of the best things about fall: the smell.

This week the leaves started turning, and finally the stale smell of pollen has been replaced outside with that crunchy leaf smell you only get once a year.  Gone is the smell of ripe tomatoes in my kitchen, instead replaced by root vegetables and other earthy flavors.  Along with rotating my clothes I also like to rotate my grooming and household products to reflect these changes as well.  Lavender, usually my choice for soaps and cleansers, gets replaced by sandalwood and pepper scented products, and I’m on the hunt for a replacement for the light and summery vetiver cologne I’ve been wearing these last few months.  Plus, I don’t usually burn candles in the summer, but on cosy fall and winter nights, nothing beats a wonderful candle – I can’t wait for the temperatures to drop.
