Cowardly Thoughts

I stumbled upon these pictures of Sir Noel Coward this weekend whilst looking for photos to decorate my apartment with, and thought I had to share.

Something of Noel Coward’s unique charm manages to come across in photos in an almost supernatural way. Cary Grant looks great in photos, but his Cary Grant-ness doesn’t really jump off the page to me the same way it does in his films. Just looking at a photo like the above (or the below), I smirk and almost feel like Coward has quipped from beyond.

The now delightfully anachronistic bent of these photos just ads to the effect for me, and reminds me not to take life too seriously. A smile and a dressing gown go perfectly together, don’t they?
