Not So Modern Manners
I ordered this book a few weeks ago for my thesis, and I just had a chance to look through it the other day. It has a lot of funny, charming, and more than slightly anachronistic things in it – which is to be expected, considering it was published in 1872.

I don’t know about anyone else, but when I pull my flannel trousers on in the morning or drape my shoulders in a worsted jacket, the first thing that comes to my mind typically isn’t a herd of sheep. While many of us may think about where the coat was made or the creative process that went into designing the trousers, the origin of the material itself is all too often left out of the equation.
Tiny Tie Clip
Now that the temperatures are finally starting to cool off a bit (a very little bit), it’s getting easier to wear a tie, which for me means wearing my tiny tie clip most days.
A Martini – Stirred, not Shaken
I haven’t done a drinks post in quite a while, and in light of The Thin Man, I thought I would post my Martini recipe. A Martini is really one of the most simple cocktails out there, but one of the real measures of a good barman. I don’t profess to have a “perfect” recipe, but just one that I really enjoy. As with all cocktails, good ingredients are key, and in something so simple even more so.

Most nights this past week ended with me closing up the rest of my apartment, settling down in the bedroom, and turning on a movie. Now this isn’t unusual by any means, but this week I spent working my way through the wonderful The Thin Man films.
