Happy Anniversary
Well, we made it! One year ago I launched Simply Refined, with absolutely no idea where it would take me. I’m happy to say it has been a great year, and I want to thank everyone who made that possible.
Weekend Read – Ian Fleming
While most of this weekend was spent working on my thesis – due tomorrow – I did find some time to relax and decompress. I wrote last week about kicking up your heels and recharging, and so I decided that if I’m going to follow anyone’s advice, why not my own?
Neue Wave Art
A friend of mine sent me this article from Thursday’s New York Times, entitled “Fin-de-Siècle Hothouse, Plush and Neurotic.” It’s about a new exhibition at the Neue Galerie in New York City, “Vienna 1900: Style and Identity,” focusing on turn-of-the-century Viennese art and design (big surprise, right?).
Re-Watching Metropolitan
I’ve seen Whit Stillman’s masterpiece-of-manners a few times, but I rewatched it this weekend and particularly enjoyed it. If you haven’t seen it, do so as soon as you can. I promise you won’t regret it. It’s on Netflix instant queue if you have it.
Mid-Week Movie – Kind Hearts and Coronets
This week has been busy, and as a break I treated myself to a glass of port and 1949′s Kind Hearts and Coronets. Alec Guiness plays about 90% of the characters, and to great avail. The film has a Wildean wit, with an Edwardian flair. Needless to say, I enjoyed it.
