Taste has always been about selection and discrimination, which doesn’t jive with others ideas of egalitarianism, even on an elevated level, but so what! Taste Is an individual thing, so what’s mine is not necessarily yours, and vice versa.

I think the difference between elegance and ostentation isn't in the specific goods themselves, but in the way they're used by an individual. Buying something for the glories of a brand's past and its current logo is ostentation. Buying something, whether it is for a specific quality: longevity, careful detailing, does not specifically imply elegance, but it's at least along the right path.
