Future Dad -

I am glad you like both the blog and the Sidecar. In general, I think it is a very undervalued cocktail by most people.

For me, the biggest thing the orange bitter do is add a nice aroma of orange on top of the lemon. The lemon juice usually seems to squelch the other aromas in my opinion, but it is necessary for flavor - the bitters fix this one-dimensionality a bit for me. Let me know how you like it.

Just found your blog and am enjoying it immensely. I felt compelled to comment on this post because the Sidecar is my go-to cocktail. Got introduced to it at a restaurant a few years ago with a recipe that I have refined over those years. It is very close to yours. 3 parts Cognac, 2 parts Cointreau (I find any other orange liqueur not as good) and 1 part lemon juice. Can't wait to try it with some orange bitters - I think I have some blood orange bitters in the fridge. Cheers!
