Graduation Gala
Well, it’s finally here – Graduation Week. I’ve got my gown and cap in hand, the campus is beginning to team with parents and relatives, and the University has planted a few thousand flowers to compensate for the mediocre weather.
But before we graduate on Thursday and Friday, the Chancellor was kind enough to host a gala dinner Monday night. The dresscode was “Black Tie Options, Cocktail” and I must say I was surprised at the results. The gents who had DJs wore them, and I saw less than a handful not wearing dark suits and ties. Obviously it was no stomp at the Savoy, but I’m proud of my contemporaries for putting on a coat and wrapping some silk around their necks – I was expecting the worst. In fact, it was the ladies who seemed to not understand that a cocktail dress and what they might wear to a nightclub are not the same thing.
Now if only we can get the guys to adopt the white-shirt-after-six rule…
