Big Purple Book
This weekend I picked up one of my favorite pieces of menswear journalism: The Esquire Big Black Book. I anxiously await the twice-yearly publication, and although last Spring’s was the weakest yet, I could not wait to get my hands on this purple herringbone tome.
The Black Book is usually a good mix of typical fashion editorial, lifestyle editorial, fashion shoots, and then the fun style advice and craft columns that I wish Esquire would have every month. If a magazine could hone in and publish something like this monthly I think it would blow GQ, Esquire, &c. right out of the water. The Rake is a whole other animal altogether, but that’s for another time.
Tweed, Swiss Watches, Wool, Coats and Shirt Collars are just a few of the topics covered, so if you haven’t gotten a copy before, I highly recommend this issue. Enjoy.

October 4, 2010I bought my copy and what shows up in the mail – the new issue of The Rake. Sorry, Esquire but its now second on the nightstand. But I agree with you, Esquire has a real winner. GQ just put its own version which doesn't look as posh.
