I don’t have any first-hand experience with Hugh & Crye, so I can’t speak directly to something that fits like their shirts, but I do have a recommendation or two. Brooks Brothers makes shirts in Slim and Extra slim, so you can see which fits better, and their button down collars are still pretty nice. Also Charles Tyrwitt makes shirts in two slimmer fits (slim and tailored they call them), and their collars are great. Only buy them on sale though, in the $40-60 range. Almost always on sale anyway.

What about this quandary: You’re skinny so regular-size shirts don’t fit, but you don’t like the look of the ultra-slim ones (for all the great reasons above, especially wimpy collars)? Any suggestions on well-fitting shirts that aren’t too slim?

I’ve had good luck with Hugh & Crye: slim with wonderfully full collars.

Thanks Derek, and you’re absolutely right. Puckering buttons are a dead giveaway and bloggers need to chill with the super-slim stuff. Spot on as usual sir.

Another great post.

Just to add one other disadvantage to overly slim shirts – getting something too tight will make it difficult to sit down in. Your stomach naturally protrudes a bit when you sit down (even if you have a washboard stomach) and this can really strain the opening of your shirt. Putting aside what it does to your clothing, it’s not very flattering to the wearer, to say the least.

I always say that men without style blog should size down. Men with style blogs, however, often seem like they should size up.
