Getting a Good Read
Anyone who know anything about me knows that some of the few things I like more than fine clothes and a good drink are books. So when they have to do with dress and drink, all the better. Sadly, unlike the demand for the latest pulp novel, demand for the best menswear tomes often wanes and they don’t get reprinted.
Luckily for us, we live in the age of the digitally-armed gent. So, get thee to ebay, Amazon, and other corners of the internet and seek out these amazing old volumes. Gentleman’s Gazette recently reviewed a book entitled Nothing but the Best by Thomas Girtin, and within minutes of reading the review I had a used copy ordered on Amazon for less than ten dollars shipped. Often, it’s this easy. Men in Style would be a notable exception, with copies frequently going for hundreds of dollars online. Take Ivy had the same status until its reprinting was announced.
So, do yourself a favor and buy a book this weekend. Seriously, for less than a good cocktail you can give yourself something even more savory. Whether Elegance, Nothing but the Best, The Englishman’s Suit, or anything else, happy reading.

April 8, 2011I just picked up "Bespoke: Savile Row Ripped and Smoothed" by Richard Anderson. Sounds like it details the fall of Huntsman.
