This weekend we got our first real days of fall here in St. Louis, and I could not be happier.  Don’t get me wrong, I love long summer days, but the end of a season always feels like a time for change to me.  I’m tired of wearing the same seasonal clothes, and in this case the warm days that were a few months ago a welcome relief from icy winter are now just sweaty and dull.

I ordered this book a few weeks ago for my thesis, and I just had a chance to look through it the other day. It has a lot of funny, charming, and more than slightly anachronistic things in it – which is to be expected, considering it was published in 1872.

As anyone who frequents Simply Refined will already know by now, I am more than a little bit obsessed with books. Each year when I move back to school, the first purchase of the year is invariably another bookshelf to accommodate my ever-expanding personal library. If you enter any room I frequent, chances are it has more books than furniture.
