This week has been crazy, and I’ve been running mad – you might have noticed the lack of a post on Monday, which is the first one I’ve missed in almost a year.  Things show no signs of stopping until the middle of next week, so my solution is a simple one: indulge.

I’ve written before about my love of Berry Bros. & Rudd in London’s St. James’s.  You get that wonderful Ye Olde Shoppe feeling while getting throughly modern service and product.  If you’re a frequent reader, you also know I love my smokey whisky.  Smokey anything really.  Something about that mix of meaty, vegetal, and medicinal flavors just really excites me.  But, I digress.

If you haven’t gleaned it already, I’m a man who changes with the seasons.  I like linen in summer and flannel in winter.  I love the scent of flowers in the spring and spices in the fall.  And, like many people, I eat and drink with the seasons as well.

I’m sitting here on a rainy Sunday night writing this, comforted by a nice cup of tea.  Not just any tea, but Lapsang Souchong, a black tea smoked over Chinese pines during the drying process.  Mr. Nick Foulkes wrote about Horace Walpole’s coining the term “gloomth” on Swellboy not too long ago, but for my money while Walpole may have coined the term it’s Thomas de Quincey who epitomizes the feeling in Confessions of an English Opium Eater.

I spent last night on the roof of a local hotel sipping cocktails with friends, even though it was beginning to get a bit too chilly to really be outside.  It’s getting close to the end of the outdoor season, so to remind myself of summer I ordered up a Negroni.
