A Note on Notes

So with the holiday season winding down, now comes that partner to gift giving and receiving – the thank you note.  Some people have allowed this courtesy to fall into the digital basket, but sending an email just doesn’t do it for me.

This year finds me with my usual Smythson stationary, which I emboss myself, but with a new pen.  My better half’s family quite thoughtfully sent me a great new fountain pen for the holidays.  I’m starting to build up a nice little collection, but this will be my official thank you note pen over the next few weeks.

Do you still hand-write thank you notes?  Do you write thank you notes at all?

I started writing thank you notes about two years ago. Before that I was pretty much an ungrateful boor, who either just said, "thanks" on a call or email. Now I not only write notes, I send a few letters to friends far away. I have even got a few back. We all agree that it is very hard to get back into writing real letters. It's a dying art, but I am doing my best to bring it back– albeit only in my little corner of the world near New York City.
